Who are we?
Our Mission
The TRANSFoodMERS – Responsible Food System | Youth Game Challenge is an innovative European initiative that aims to enhance digital and environmental competencies among young people through game-based learning (GBL). As part of the Erasmus+ KA220-YOU program, the project addresses the urgent need for sustainable food consumption and production by equipping youth with interactive tools to understand and take action on food-related environmental challenges.
Food consumption is one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation, yet many young people lack awareness of its impact. TRANSFoodMERS seeks to bridge this gap by integrating digital innovation and experiential learning into sustainability education. The project’s core objective is to educate and empower young people by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and motivation needed to make informed, sustainable choices. Through engaging board games, digital simulations, and outdoor activities, the project transforms complex sustainability concepts into accessible and actionable experiences.
To achieve these goals, TRANSFoodMERS begins with a comprehensive research phase, analyzing youth awareness of sustainable food systems and identifying key areas for education. This foundational work informs the development of a learning toolkit, which will serve as a resource for youth workers, educators, and young people. The toolkit will include case studies, best practices, and interactive exercises that encourage critical thinking and informed decision-making.
A key component of the project is the creation of an interactive game-based learning platform, designed to provide immersive and engaging educational experiences. The platform will feature three unique learning tools: a board game, where players navigate food system challenges; a digital serious game, allowing users to experiment with sustainable choices in a simulated environment; and an outdoor games guide, which offers hands-on activities that connect youth with nature and sustainability. These tools ensure that young people can learn in a dynamic and interactive way, making sustainability education more effective and impactful.
Beyond its educational focus, TRANSFoodMERS fosters international collaboration, bringing together youth organizations, educators, and sustainability experts from across Europe. By facilitating knowledge exchange and best practice sharing, the project strengthens youth education and engagement in environmental issues. Additionally, the initiative promotes youth entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector, encouraging the development of eco-friendly business models that align with the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The project’s broader mission is to prepare young people to become leaders in sustainability, equipping them with the skills needed to drive change in their communities and industries. By promoting responsible food consumption and production, TRANSFoodMERS not only raises awareness but also empowers youth to take action in shaping a more sustainable future. Through digital innovation, game-based methodologies, and cross-border collaboration, the project ensures that sustainability education is engaging, modern, and impactful.
By integrating interactive learning, digital tools, and real-world applications, TRANSFoodMERS represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainability education. It serves as a call to action for young people, encouraging them to become agents of change in creating a more responsible and environmentally conscious food system.
